For most people all over the United States, today is the last day to file their federal taxes. However, things are a little different if you live in one of the many areas of California affected by winter storms that hit the Golden State in early 2023. Keep reading to learn more.
About the 2023 Tax Deadline
Today is the official deadline to file and pay your taxes. That is, unless you live or have a business in one of the areas of California affected by the storms that walloped the states during the first quarter of 2023.
People who live or have businesses in those areas now have until Oct. 16, 2023, to file various individual and business tax returns and make tax payments. This includes 2022 individual income tax returns due on April 18, as well as various 2022 business returns normally due on March 15 and April 18.
Below are the lists of the affected areas. To check the updated lists, visit the “Tax Relief in Disaster Situations” section on the IRS website.
