As of today, millions of American families have received their Advance Child Tax Credit Payments, a measure designed to offer financial relief to those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. If you still haven’t received your payments, here’s what you need to know to sign up.
What Are the Advance Child Tax Credit Payments?
These payments are part of the American Rescue Plan, a package of provisions geared toward helping working families during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Most eligible families received their first payment on July 15, 2021, and will continue to receive them through December 2021.
Each payment is up to $300 for each child under six, and up to $250 for each child ages 6 through 17.
The next payment dates are September 15, October 15, November 15, and December 15.
How to Sign Up for the Advance Child Tax Credit Payments?
Low-income families can still sign up for the Advance Child Tax Credit Payments. If you still haven’t signed up, the following online tools will help you navigate the process more easily:
- Use the Eligibility Assistant to find out if you are eligible for the payments.
- If the IRS doesn’t have your information because you are not required to file a tax return, use the Child Tax Credit Non-Filer Sign-Up Tool.
- Those looking to manage their payments should access the Child Tax Credit Update Portal, where they can check if they are enrolled for the payments, update their bank account and mailing address, and view their payments.
The update portal also allows users to unenroll from the advance payments. To stop all payments starting in September, you must unenroll by 11:59 pm ET on August 30, 2021.
