Economic Impact Payments, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) economic stimulus, are already in the accounts of many taxpayers suffering the consequences of the coronavirus outbreak. However, some people are getting the message “Status Not Available” when they check online the status of their payment.
Why does this happen? There are three basic scenarios.
You Are Not Eligible for an Economic Impact Payment
Users not eligible for an Economic Impact Payment also get the “Status Not Available” message. Taxpayers who qualify for an Economic Impact Payment have an Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) up to:
- $75,000 for individuals
- $112,500 for head of household filers and
- $150,000 for married couples filing joint returns
If your AGI is above these limits, don’t worry. You can still get a reduced Economic Impact Payment if your AGI is between these rages:
- $75,000 and $99,000 if your filing status was single or married filing separately
- 112,500 and $136,500 for head of household
- $150,000 and $198,000 if your filing status was married filing jointly
You Filed Tax Returns, But Your Entry Hasn’t Been Processed
If you are eligible for an Economic Impact Payment and fall into this category, you get the “Status Not Available” message because the IRS hasn’t processed your return yet, or because the application doesn’t have your data for some other reason.
This may be solved soon, given that the Get My Payment website is updated daily, usually overnight. Keep this in mind, as the IRS encourages users to check the website just once a day. This way you will avoid excessive traffic, allowing as many users as possible to check the status of their payments.
You Don’t File Returns, and There’s a Delay Uploading Your Data
If you receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Social Security (SSA) benefits or Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits, the IRS may not have your information yet, but they’re working with those agencies to upload your details to the platform.
If you used the Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here feature on the IRS website and get the “Status Not Available” message, then probably the IRS hasn’t processed your entry yet.
